Our sweet Starflower suffered a terrible injury when she was a yearling and almost lost the use of her two left legs.  Both legs had cuts of varying degrees of severity.  The rear leg was cut through to the joint at the hock, her front hoof was badly damaged, and her front pastern was hanging by a thread.  She bravely endured several months of treatment involving dressing the wounds several times each day, splints and bandages.  The wounds healed but she never regained full range of motion and will always have an awkward gait.  While she will never achieve stardom in the show ring, we appreciate the strength of her conformation, her willingness to be a milker and love the way she effortlessly produces gorgeous kids.  Starflower will never leave our farm.  She is a keeper!

The photos below were taken a few weeks after the injury occurred and show how the wounds were already starting to heal.
